Tuning the Station to Stillness

Tuning the Station to Stillness

Life is about falling down and getting back up again. Just when you think you have it all together, something happens to derail you. You miss an important client call, or you accidentally forget to pay a bill.  Suddenly in a swirl of activity, your world gets turned upside down.
It’s at that moment that you have a choice: Panic or heightened listening.
I have erred on the side of panic so many times it’s beyond embarrassing. When panic hits we do things we shouldn’t. We overeat or overspend. We call our friends and wear their ears out with the ranting and railing.  Exhausted we finally throw ourselves down and then, in our un-ego filled state, we can actually listen.
The interesting thing is that help generally can come a lot sooner if, when the world turns topsy-turvy, we choose to tune in and calm down. It’s not the first thing that comes to mind when you feel stressed out and overwrought by your phone or your email or your schedule or your life. However, with practice you can make it your default choice and the most awesome option to choose.
This week, try it. When you start to feel your adrenaline rising because of x,y or z, take a deep breath. Close your eyes (unless you are driving) and take another deep breath. Then quietly ask, what is the best thing for me to do right now?
Now here’s the key. You have to keep your inner chatter quiet and let the stillness overtake you. You want to listen, really listen beyond your ego’s rant, beyond the suck of desire for things, beyond the edge of panic. Listen to that deep inner calling, that wave of simple stillness.  And imagine riding in on that wave is the answer to your question, to your dilemma, to your panic.
Let it wash right over you and into you and through you. You don’t need to have “heard” something. You can just let the stillness deepen you, expand into you, soothe you. Stay with that stillness as long as you can. Then open your eyes, keep going on with your day, but add to it the knowingness that this issue you are panicking about it will be and is being handled. Because it is and it will be.
Until next time, big love to you Creative Genius.

Visual Storytelling Class
Seattle WA

Walk into almost any office and you’ll see people furiously writing away on whiteboards, frosted glass walls, and erasable table tops. According to The Wall Street Journal, the late Steve Jobs and Seattle’s own Jeff Bezos have both been hailed as whiteboard virtuosi. So, the idea of working through problems and storytelling using a whiteboard is definitely not new. What is new, is making the art and science of visual storytelling teachable. And teach it we shall.

Hack Your Dreams

Hack Your Dreams

A lot of people today are interested in bio hacking. They are experimenting with going vegan or gluten free, cutting out sugar, drinking less coffee, doing yoga and meditating regularly. Every body is different, and we are all unique in how we care for them.
The same holds true for dreams. Every person’s dreams are different. Sometimes we hide our dreams, other times we go for them. But regardless, we all wonder, how do we more easily achieve them?
The interesting thing is you are the only one who knows the secret code that answers that question, but many of us doubt our knowledge of that code. We feel powerless about our ability to influence whether our dreams come true
When I began learning that the things I did, said or pictured in my mind influenced my ability to achieve my dreams more quickly, I woke up and paid attention. This mystery was awesome to unravel.  I began to hack my dreams. I’d ask questions and document the answers: what helped the dream happen faster?  What hindered it?  What absolutely thrilled me?
This week go Hack Your Dreams.
Take just one dream you have for your life – might be your health, your career, your spiritual connectedness, your relationships.  Take one and hack it.
Study it. Where did it come from? What motivated you to make that a dream of yours?  What big or small steps could you take to achieve it?  Write it down, draw a picture, add some color.
Neuroscientists have told us about neurogenesis – that our brains can generate new neural pathways, so why not create a new pathway of belief in your dream? Capture your dream in an image, then play that dream like a movie each time you have a free moment.  Daydream that dream for your life as if it is happening right now. Your brain will respond by reacting differently to new opportunities, and viewing life from a different angle.
Hack Your Dreams and find your secret code and methodology that works just for you. I double dog dare you.

Unplug YOU

Tip Of The Week

We all know and understand the important of being present in the now, but when you live in the present and imagine the future, you boost your serotonin levels and motivate yourself to achieve your goals! #CreativeGeniusYOU

Unplug YOU.
Simply shift your consciousness.
Unplug YOU.
It’s As Simple As Shifting Your Awareness

There are dozens of articles and blog posts on the importance of getting unplugged. People who have cut off their cable or downsized their internet or tracked and minimised their phone usage.

When did the term "Plugged in" get hijacked to mean “Plugged in to your devices?”  Being plugged in used to mean being in touch with you, your higher purpose, and the bigger universe around you. Now the word “unplugged” appears to be a part of that. Curious!

How can you unplug in the midst of all the wizardry of our techno-utopian planet?  By finding some quiet.  And it doesn’t require going anywhere but in.
How to unplug you:

First, close your eyes, take a walk, or find a private spot. Then take a few deep breaths and turn your attention to listen to whatever sounds you hear around you - without judgment.  That guy typing so loud.  The birds outside.  The kids playing in the other room. Your own breath going in and out. Just notice.

And in that observation of what is, ask yourself a question that matters, like “If love were a being, what would love have me do right now?”  “If my best self had one wish for me, what would it be?” or “What things in my world make me happy?” Ask any question that takes you a notch deeper into understanding you and your connection to all of life and raises your CQ (consciousness quotient).

Then listen to what you hear. Maybe you’ll get an answer, maybe a feeling, maybe you’ll get nothing that you can register.  Whatever you hear, sense, feel, taste, be curious. Breathe it in and then breathe out gratitude.

Now taking that unplugged moment with you, reenter your outer world. Open your eyes, get a drink of water, make a note, take a call.

Whether you call it unplugging or plugging in, what matters is that whatever you do, you remember that you are in this world but not of it.  Take time to remind yourself and connect to what truly matters, your best you.

Time to Come Out - Meditators!

Arianna Huffington - "Business People Coming Out as Meditators"

TIME TO COME OUT

Confess. You're a meditator.
I went to the Wisdom 2.0 conference and I was blown out of the water by Arianna Huffington. Her opening line was, "Business people all over the world are coming out. Not as being gay, that's so yesterday, but as being meditators."  LOL! But it's true isn't it?  People who never talked about spirituality are bringing up the idea of past lives, or amazing spiritual experiences they are having.  This conference was about spirituality in business. Google, FB, Twitter, Medium are starting meditation groups in their high tech start-ups, beginning meetings by taking a moment to become present.

I love this, because, why not? Why not start everything with a moment of inner calm?  Open an inner ear to guidance and reflection? In all of the news that HuffPost offers, did you know that the religion, GPS4Soul and the Third Metric columns have the highest reader ratio?  It just happened in January.  We toppled over into soul awareness. Please join me in celebrating, no matter your faith. #awesome. #wearewakingupandtalkingaboutit

This past week I saw so many cool speakers and one of them I have to give a big shout out about.

His name is Kevin Carroll and his company is Katalyst.  His story will break your heart and then heal it up again and inspire you to stay motivated into your greatness.  Follow him, find him, hire him - Nike did for 7 years and he is on his own now speaking around the world. His message is about the power of play. "You can find out more about a person in 1 hour of play than in a year of conversation."  How true it is.

BIg shout out to all of the people from the TCI Learning Lab  program who I drew for this past weekend - all of you are so committed to innovation. Thank you so much for changing the face of education at the community college level. You're amazing.

Tomorrow I will be illustrating for the Disrupt Education think tank at Pepperdine, so stay tuned to see what they are up to. Orchestrated by none other than Frank Fitzpatrick - check him out.

She's a really great blogger, btw, who falls into our category of awakening soul messages.

PORTLANDIA Club Inc!  For those of you women who enjoy networking, I am giving a short talk over lunch this Thursday, March 6th. If you need a tune up, why not get one over lunch? That's a cheap and lively consultation plus you get to meet awesome Portland women.

Inner Guidance:  Your Divine Birthright
There's an amazing woman coming to Portland (and she may be coming to your town as well).  Anne Archer Butcher and she wrote an excellent book called "Inner Guidance: Our Divine Birthright."  She'll be speaking at the conference Travel the Road to Spiritual Freedomat the Unity Church on March 7th. I am the opener, so I'd love it if you came to see Anne and I both!  Anne will share some of her profound stories with inner guidance. Me, I'm talking about…what else, love ;-) Not to be missed!
One final thing - a question really... isn't Jimmy Fallon awesome on the Tonight Show? Hashtag LOVE HIM! #changingtheworldonesweetmomentatatime
